The 9th Kalamata Street Festival:

The 9th Kalamata Street Festival will be held on 28-29-30-31 July, at the Municipal Railway Park. The Kalamata Street Festival is an international voluntary structure organised by K.A.NE. Social Youth Development and the Youth Centre of Kalamata, with the support of the Region of Peloponnese - Regional District of Messinia and local associations, organisations and groups of Kalamata. The Kalamata Street Festival features more than 20 parallel events, combining youth creativity, intergenerational cooperation and preservation of the cultural heritage of our prefecture. The festival will host theatre performances, concerts, dance groups, sporting activities, educational actions for children and young people, short-film and video-art screenings, painting exhibitions, artistic installations and an environmental stand. It will also provide young creators, artists and athletes with a space for expression, and motivate them to participate in more activities in the future, bringing equivalent recognition to their place of origin.

Though the main part of the Festival takes place in the end of July, the 9th festival events begun in April. Since then, three international artistic events have been presented, the Street Opera, a short-film screening and the Metamorphosis exhibition.

16th April 2016, 21h30   I    Agioi Apostoloi Place  I   Kalamata

As the first pre-event of KALAMATA STREET FESTIVAL 2016, we will start this spring with

 the Street Opera Project!

The idea:

We are all witnesses on those days of horrible crime; significant moments will mark our time for the upcoming future in Europe. Terror, assassination attempt, cross-border streams of refugees and states that are swamped, destabilizing impact onneighboring countries, mistrust and an alarmingly rising right-wing populismeverywhere in Europe. The bubble threat to burst – or even did.

But there is still a light on a horizon. We only have this earth, this life, and this chance to make the world around us a little better. The world is ours. What kind of a world do we want to live in, and how do we want to design it?

Music brings people together. That is our personal advantage as artists, insignificant if we are only a small artists or already a popular artist – we are able to create anartistically pacific power and spread it out in the world.

And this becomes even stronger in projects like ours. Music is the bridge; people can forget everyday life - breathe deeply and finally enjoy only the music, the dance and the theatre and Kalamata - their homeland in all its beauty.

As a sign, as a hope, as a motivation, that there is more.
